Three Weeks!

It's so hard to believe that it has already been three weeks since Peter was born. Pretty soon a month will have passed, and it seems like no time at all. He is teetering between his newborn and 0-3 month clothes and is getting so big. He is getting much more reactive and so very strong. He also loves to be held and bounced, my arms are going to be amazing from all this lifting. Here is an album with some additional pictures from April.

Two Weeks Later

It is very hard to believe that just two weeks ago, Peter was an inside baby (with no name). It is amazing how everything changed once he was born, and I can't imagine him not being here.

At about 4pm on April 7th, my water broke. Since I wasn't feeling any contractions (even though I was having them), and I had no progress two days earlier at my doctor's appointment, we waited a few hours before going to the hospital. When I had been at the hospital for twenty-four hours, they started to get concerned for Peter, and the decision was made for a c-section.

I am finally starting to feel normal again. When we left for the hospital, I was up 30 pounds exactly from my pre-pregnancy weight. I am now down 25 pounds, just 5 pounds above where I started. So, for the last time, here is a belly picture comparison of me at 39 weeks pregnant and 2 weeks postpartum. (The picture isn't that great, turns out sleep is no better on this side of delivery.)

What a difference a week makes...

Peter has been sleeping in the cradle that Geoff's grandfather had made for him 35 years ago since we got home from the hospital. Yesterday, Geoff and I noticed that it seemed to be getting a little tight for him, and that we would probably have to transition him to the crib this weekend (time to set up the monitor). We might not have been imagining things, since we found out at the pediatrician that Peter has put on 13 ounces in the past week. He is now 9 lbs 1 oz.

He is also getting much more active, and seems so strong for a two week old. He is trying so hard to push up when he is laying on someone's chest, and is getting much better at holding up his head when he is upright. It's hard to believe how much he has already changed in these two short weeks.

I will now leave you with a few pictures. I will also be posting an updated album shortly as well as sharing some videos.

Happy One Week Birthday Peter!

Yesterday, Peter turned one week old. It's hard to believe that just over a week ago I was impatiently waiting for him to arrive, and now he's here. Geoff and I could not be more happy, and we are so very thankful to everyone who has been so supportive. Recovering has been a slow and painful process (one of the reasons that I didn't want a c-section), but Peter makes it all worth it.

I am going to keep this blog going, and use it to give updates and pictures of Peter. Also, feel free to check out our family blog, In Our Life. That blog has less of a focus on Peter, and more of what we are doing as a family.

Finally, I will leave you with two pictures of Peter from yesterday.

Welcome Peter Joseph!

After twenty four hours in the hospital, on Thursday, April 8th Peter Joseph was delivered at 9:29 pm by c-section. He was a healthy 8 pounds 5 ounces and 20 1/2 inches long. We have been home since Sunday, and the three of us have been working on getting into a rhythm since then. Peter seems to have his days and nights reversed and is definitely keeping Mommy on her toes while she tries to heal.

I cannot stop staring at him, and cannot believe how lucky Geoff and I are to have him. I barely remember what it was like before he was here.

Here is an album with some pictures. I am going to keep updating the album, so make sure to check back often.

39 Week Picture and Poll

I'm not sure what is going on with my hair in the picture, but it has been a long day and I'm about to go to sleep.

How far along? 39 weeks
Total weight gain/loss: Up about 27 pounds
Maternity clothes? Yes, and even maternity pants are getting very uncomfortable
Stretch Marks? Nothing new
Sleep: I am pretty tired all the time, but I have a very hard time sleeping
Best moment this week: Spending the weekend with friends and family
Movement: Yes, and it makes me jump, and other people think that I'm in labor
Food cravings: No real cravings
Labor Signs: The only sign so far is the nausea, according to some books
Belly Button in or out? Out
What I miss: Fitting at a table
What I am looking forward to: Meeting the baby, hopefully it will happen this week
Weekly Wisdom: Take your car seat to be inspected, just to make sure it is installed correctly, and they give you a lot of other useful information
Milestones: One week to the due date (although that doesn't mean very much, and the baby can come at any time)

(from babycenter.com, because theBump.com didn't change)
Your baby's waiting to greet the world! He continues to build a layer of fat to help control his body temperature after birth, but it's likely he already measures about 20 inches and weighs a bit over 7 pounds, a mini watermelon. (Boys tend to be slightly heavier than girls.) The outer layers of his skin are sloughing off as new skin forms underneath.

Lullaby and Good Night

Nursery is finally done! Geoff finished hanging the last few things in the room, and it is completely ready for the baby. Now we just are waiting for her/him to arrive. Here are some pictures.
